Big personalities. Tender hearts. Plenty of opinions.
Meet the characters who fill Spicyville with laughter, unexpected romance, and the kind of friendship that makes room for every part of you.
Growing up, I didn’t always feel like I belonged. I know what it feels like to be called “too much,” to be handed a label before anyone asks your story, and to try to shrink yourself to fit.
So I created the world I wish I’d had when I was younger.
Spicyville is full of laughter, drama, friendship, and glitter. Its characters make mistakes. They judge too quickly. They learn to look again. And through it all, they keep finding reasons to show up for each other.
Writing these stories became my way of turning what hurt into something that might help someone else feel seen.
If you’ve ever felt too loud, too different, or not enough, there’s room for you here.
You don’t have to be perfect to shine, and you never have to shrink to belong.
— Salvatore Barbera, “Spicy Sal”

A big-hearted dreamer with a flair for drama, Sal believes in fresh starts, grand gestures, and being fully himself. With Cocoa by his side, he’s making room for friendship, unexpected romance, and a life as colourful as his wardrobe.
He may not have everything figured out, but he’s bringing his whole heart.

Small dog. Royal standards. Absolutely no shortage of opinions.
Cocoa is Sal’s loyal sidekick, a crowned mini cockapoo with a talent for stealing scenes and delivering devastating side-eye.
Beneath all that attitude is a heart devoted to his favourite human.
Every found family needs someone in charge. Cocoa has already appointed himself.

Quiet confidence. A steady presence. A smile that makes Sal lose his train of thought.
Ridnaj brings a calmer energy to Spicyville’s colourful chaos. Handy with a tool belt and often harder to read than Sal would like, he has a way of making the smallest moments feel significant.
Some connections arrive with fireworks. Others start with someone showing up.

Big opinions. Sharp wit. An entrance you won’t forget.
Samantha brings glamour, gossip, and a generous helping of drama to Spicyville. Patty’s identical twin has a talent for making herself heard, but beneath the bold exterior is someone who wants to feel she belongs.
She’ll give you something to talk about. Getting to know her gives you someone to care about.

A thoughtful heart. A well-loved book. Something delicious to share.
Patty brings warmth, creativity, and a little calm to Spicyville’s everyday chaos. Samantha’s identical twin feels most herself in cosy clothes, with a favourite recipe nearby and her fluffy cat, Marshmallow, keeping her company.
Her kindness is its own kind of confidence. Get to know her, and you’ll see why this found family feels like home.

Hi, I’m Sal, the author behind The Spicy Sal Adventures. You can call me Spicy Sal.
I write stories filled with queer heroes, big laughs, unexpected romance, and found family. Spicyville is a place for anyone who has ever felt like the black sheep or been told they’re “too much.”
I’m based in Toronto, where my own dog, Cocoa, provides plenty of inspiration. Through all the glitter and chaos, these stories carry a simple welcome: there’s room for you here.
